Morlund and the Westmarch Peoples

Several hundred years ago, nestled against mountains between the Riverlands, now beginning to beginning to identify culturally as Valgresians, and the peninsula to the south, several small nations banded together in an attempt to survive the near constant warfare raging between the countries around them. Organizing into a simple representative council, and began expanding. Though initially miniscule, they quickly attracted attention and pleas for protection from many of the local people, and the council expanded rapidly. Eventually, they drew the attention of their larger neighbors. War was inevitable, but the Morlish folk, responding with an unconventional genius that they would become famous for, developed terrifyingly effective espionage and guerrilla warfare tactics. Wars against them tended to go miserably painfully on every level, particularly on the leadership scale as enemy generals often found themselves dead in their beds. Morlund would use this growing power in a yet more ingenious way, by organizing one of the largest trading centers in the region. the city of Riverton would grow to become the single largest trading post and population center in the known world, as it became famous for its prosperity and security.
